The Visual Nexus products, from OKI Electric of Japan, is a complete virtual meeting solution.
The heart of the system is the meeting server which is a software product that manages users registering with the system, sets up calls using a presence based user interface, mixes the audio and video for multiparty virtual meetings and has a web based administration system. With your virtual meeting system you can use software endpoints running on existing Windows computers and video conferencing room systems. By adding the Visual Nexus software endpoint to a Windows computer you create a powerful communication tool that can be used to join a face to face virtual meeting and share data and applications. One of the historical issues in deploying this kind of system is the difficulty of enabling voice and video traffic to cross firewalls and network boundaries. The Visual Nexus secure transport option is a secure way to traverse firewalls and NATs enabling you to join a virtual meeting from any where you can get a broad band connection. Finally any virtual meeting solution must interoperate with the systems you already use. The Visual Nexus SIP option lets you interoperate between Visual Nexus solutions and IP PBX systems or Microsoft OCS systems.
The Visual Nexus solution has five different methods for sharing or collaborating online, depending on exactly what the user needs to do.
- "Show and Play" video and still images through the high quality video system
- Present Microsoft Office documents to other meeting participants
- Share and collaborate on any application running on a participants computer (without requiring desktop share)
- Display documents to video conferencing equipment with the video H.239 standard
- Text messaging between users on the system
